What is a Giclée?

A giclée is a new technology in print making. Giclées are made with large format high end professional inkjet printers. Giclée is a French word meaning "to spray." Instead of being "pressed on" the surface of the paper as in traditional offset printing, these inks are sprayed giving the resulting prints a far richer look that more closely resembles an original painting. Thousands of dots are sprayed in a fine mist on the paper or canvas. Giclée prints from high end professional printers produce a fineness of detail and a richness of color that is unavailable in traditional prints.

Rita Tate Giclées are printed on an Epson Archival 10000 Printer. This is the top of the line of the Epson Professional Graphic printers. It accurately matches the gamut of her palettes and produces superb prints that accurately reflect the original art. Rita's paper / ink combinations have been tested by Wilhelm Imaging Research, the internationally recognized testing authority, and have been rated to last 100 to 200 years before any noticable fading. [For comparison, photographs tested by the same procedure only are rated at 18 years.]

The new prints are on either Epson Smooth Fine Art made especially for the fine art market by Crane or Crane own Museo. Crane has been making papers for the fine art market for over 200 years. These are rich, heavy papers with a nice feel that produce vivid images
